The NCC Digi Course

The NCC Digi Course

NCC Education is an awarding organisation and global provider of British education. First established in 1966 as a division of the UK’s National Computing Centre, NCC Educationoffers the complete education solution to our global network of Accredited Partner Centres in more than 50 countries.

NCC Education’s Digi programmes provide a complete teaching and learning solution aligned to the new English national curriculum for Computing. The programmes have been designed to meet the needs of both UK and international students and can be delivered in a variety of settings across different delivery time frames.

Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s School has partnered with NCC and aspires to introduce the Digi programmes in the upcoming academic session 2019 – 20.A brief tester has already been implemented in our primary classes. Students are studying lessons and are attempting tasks with the help of their teachers’ guidance and visual aid links provided in the books.

The Digi programme comprises of four key stages that span all primary and secondary grade levels.

Key Stage 1 – Digi Explorers:

Digi Explorers is the first stage of the NCC Computing programme for primary school students, introducing and practising the fundamentals of computational thinking, online safety, digital literacy and coding using the hugely popular and fun Scratch programming language. The programme provides a high quality, comprehensive introduction to computing for students both in the UK and internationally.

Key Stage 2 – Digi Navigators:

Digi Navigators is the second stage of the NCC Computing programme for young learners, building on the Digi Explorers programme and students’ emerging skills and confidence with computational thinking, online safety, digital literacy and coding. New topics are introduced for this upper primary stage and students’ coding skills are taken to the next level as they are introduced to and begin using their second main programming language, Python. The programme provides a high quality, comprehensive Computing curriculum for students both in the UK and internationally

Key Stage 3 – Digi Trailblazers:

Digi Trailblazers is the third stage of the NCC Computing programme for Secondary school learners. With students becoming more digitally literate and wishing to explore the online world for education and entertainment more fully, this programme further develops critical understanding of computational thinking, online safety, digital literacy and coding. New topics are introduced for this first secondary school programme and students’ existing coding skills are taken even further with more advanced Scratch and Python programming lessons. The Digi Trailblazers programme provides a high quality, comprehensive Computing curriculum for students both in the UK and internationally

Key Stage 4 – Digi Award:

Digi Award is our highest level Computing programme for Secondary school learners and is included in the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework at Level 2 (the same level as all IGCSE qualifications). The Digi Award programme fully consolidates students’ computational thinking, online safety, digital literacy and coding skills and lessons provide innovative projects where students practice the Computing skills and techniques required for success in the modern world, further vocational or academic study. New topics are introduced for this final secondary school programme and students’ coding skills are strengthened with more advanced Python lessons as well as lessons providing an introduction to Java, the most popular programming language globally.

Key Stage 4 – Digi Award:

Robotics

Robotics is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering and science that includes mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering, computer science, and others. This field deals with the design, construction, operation, and use of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.

Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s School has introduced a Robotics course for our secondary students as an extracurricular activity to keep students motivated for learning beyond the boundaries of our regular curriculum. Students will additionally learn computer, electronic and scientific skills which will help them understand the present technology. Lessons in this course are designed on Project Based Learning teaching methodology to help students learn better. Projects give students the chance to apply the skills they learn in school to personally relevant and real-world situations. In this course, your child will learn skills to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills will help students succeed both in school today as well as in the professional world later in the future.
